Dr. Matthew Bai is an emergency room physician at the Mt. Sinai Hospital in Queens, New York. To protect his wife and infant, he has decided to live apart from them, for at least several weeks. He describes the challenges he faces in his daily work, dealing with the overwhelming volume of patients, caring for critically ill patients, and dealing with shortages of equipment. But he also notes the positive side of the human response of professionals to rise to this challenge and provide the care that the community needs.
